OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The 21-year-old man who was convicted in the Fox River Mall shooting in January 2021 has filed a motion to withdraw the no-contest plea for which he is serving a 40-year prison sentence.
Court records show that 21-year-old Dezman Ellis has filed to withdraw his no-contest plea, for which he was convicted of 2nd-degree intentional homicide and 1st-degree reckless endangerment.

The shooting happened on January 31, 2021, when Ellis, then 17 years old, went to the Fox River Mall and got into an argument, fatally shooting one and injuring a bystander.
A manhunt for Ellis lasted several days until he was taken into custody by officers at a home in Des Moines, Iowa, on February 4, 2021.
On November 10, 2021, Ellis pleaded no contest to 2nd-degree intentional homicide and 1st-degree reckless endangerment for the Fox River Mall shooting.
Three months later, Ellis was sentenced to 40 years in prison and 25 years of extended supervision; however, with a motion to withdraw the no-contest plea, an additional hearing in the case has been set.
